Honored to be invited to Join Global Designing Cities Initiative Survey 2024

We are thrilled to have been selected among international #urbandesign and #landscapearchitecture firms to contribute our #insights and complete the Global Designing Cities Initiative (#GDCI) #survey.

- GDCI: "What do you think are the primary barriers to implementing more people-focused street transformations in your city/work and what are the strategies you are using to overcome them, if any?"

- LandmArch.: "Implementing people-focused street changes often faces challenges like #politicalresistance, a strong #carculture, financial constraints, and logistical issues. Local businesses may worry about losing customers, and there can be public concerns about safety or the lack of community involvement. Overcoming these barriers requires building support through #advocacy, educating the public about the benefits, starting with low-cost projects, and involving the #community in planning. By addressing these challenges with careful #planning and #collaboration, cities can create more pedestrian-friendly and vibrant streets."

- GDCI: "What type of information/data do you wish you currently had to help you implement people-focused street transformations?"

- LandmArch.: "To create streets that are more focused on #people, having various types of information would be really helpful. We would need data on how and when people walk and bike, the flow of traffic, and how #publictransit is used. Knowing about the community's #demographics, #safety concerns, and #accessibility needs is important too. Environmental factors like #airquality and #noise, as well as the economic impact on local businesses, would also guide the process. Additionally, feedback from residents and information about the area's #history and #culture would help ensure that the transformations meet the needs of everyone and respect the #localidentity. Understanding weather patterns would also be important for designing streets that are comfortable throughout the year.

- GDCI: "Please share any other stories, quotes, or feedback about GDCI’s impact on your local work."

- LandmArch.: "GDCI has been instrumental in shaping LandmArch's approach to creating safer, more people-centric streets. By drawing on global examples, we've successfully promoted practices that enhance safety and invigorate local economies. GDCI's guidelines have helped us improve accessibility, reduce pedestrian injuries, and adopt effective traffic-calming measures. GDCI's emphasis on community engagement has proven invaluable, leading to the creation of pedestrian zones that resonate with the public. While challenges have arisen, the positive impact of GDCI's work is evident in the lasting improvements seen across various cities worldwide."
